Technologies of Memory in the Arts covers the interdisciplinary field of Cultural Studies of Memory and Trauma from an international spectrum. It focuses on art and artistic practices as technologies of memory:paintings, souvenirs, science fiction films, memorials, novels, documentaries, comic strips, and toys. Exploring the varied ways in which artproduces and processes the past in global present, the book examines how art has a particular stake in the complex processes of cultural remembrance and amnesia. Memories are shaped by the social context in which they are produced, as well as by the material and technologicalmeans available to produce and reproduce, store, archive, and retrievethem. The essays in the volume explore technologies of memory in both traditional and newmedia. Focusing on the materiality of representation, they are especially concerned with the relation between the medium and the construction of cultural memory.
