Thesis (M.A.)--Wayne State University, 2008.
As the world approaches the ninetieth anniversary of the end of World War I, renewed emphasis is placed upon the challenges facing anthropologists studying the impacts of war on health and society. This thesis examines two critical issues related to the anthropological inquiry of historical conflicts, in this case the First World War. The study considers the use of archival print media data as a source of information to better understand societal responses to war and the challenges posed following the return of large numbers of war-injured. Additionally, this thesis explores the validity of conducting archival print media research of historical anthropological events by comparing past scholarship on the War with information gleaned from local war advertisements from locally-obtained Canadian print media sources.
