The purpose of this study is to develop a philosophical vision for dance within the context of Korean higher education which attempts to integrate traditional Korean cultural values and contemporary educational goals. This study develops a pedagogical model of spiraling that explains and discusses how teachers and students can be actively engaged in the teaching/learning process of dance in order to accomplish the contemporary educational goals of Korean higher education.

Chapter Five and Chapter Six present a pedagogical model of spiraling. The model, based on the physical characteristics of doing spiraling movement, provides a metaphor for future dance pedagogy. Chapter Five describes how the teacher's impulses initiate spiral learning in students. Chapter Six explains a pedagogy of spiraling wherein the multiple processes of engagement in teaching/learning dance result in a dynamic energy that flows from the processes of engagement.

Chapter Seven presents a summary of the study while discussing the significant implication of integrating dance practice and dance theory. The importance of Korean dance professors' close examination of their own pedagogy on both personal and community levels is emphasized for the realization of the theory of spiraling.
