Firstly, it investigates the determinants of knowledge transfers to and from newly acquired subsidiaries in transition economies. Based on some acquired subsidiaries in three Central and Eastern European countries, empirical results show that the determinants of 'conventional' parent-to-subsidiary knowledge transfers and 'reverse' subsidiary-to-parent knowledge transfers are based on different transfer logics. Organizational characteristics are important in 'conventional' knowledge flows, while knowledge characteristics are important in 'reverse' flows.

Secondly, competence development and subsidiaries' knowledge flows are analyzed multi-dimensionally. From a sample of Swedish subsidiaries, our findings indicate that subsidiaries' competence in different aspects have corresponding effect on both knowledge inflows and outflows. In addition, competence in marketing of a competence-creating mandate subsidiary has significant relationship with product innovation inflows as well as product and process innovation outflows.

Thirdly, previous study generally examines knowledge transfer and financial resources transfer separately. In this study the two types of transfer are both discussed from the perspective of the parent firms' willingness to sharing resource among subsidiaries. Results show that organizational factors stimulate parent firms' resource sharing in different ways.
