This study provides a Level 4 quantitative evaluation of a Structured On-the-Job training intervention in terms of the achievement of targeted business results and identifies which factors contributed most to its success or failure. In order to achieve a successful Level 4 evaluation, it is critical to conduct Level 1 through Level 3 evaluations in order to create what Kirkpatrick identifies as the chain of evidence necessary to validate a training program's effectiveness. It is also crucial to identify the correct data to utilize in the evaluation in order to isolate the effects of training.

520 $a The overall results of this study indicated that the expected results occurred---training percentages increased while operator-controllable errors metrics decreased. However, if this study had stopped there, much valuable information would have been overlooked. The overall results were a composite---an averaging out of the data. By continuing to the machine and team level, it was discovered that there were machines and teams that did not perform as well as others. Therefore, this study underlines the importance of not only conducting Level 4 evaluations, but driving the evaluation to the most detailed level possible in order to have a complete understanding of the results of the intervention. This information is necessary to determine what modification may be indicated in order to make the intervention more effective in achieving the targeted business results.
