Thesis (M.A.)--Texas Woman's University, 2008.
The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the potential relationships between race, political orientation, and gender and attitudes towards air pollution among U.S. adults in order to study possible associations between attitudes and socio-demographic characteristics. This research also examined interaction effects of race and political variables on attitudes and interaction effects of race and sex on attitudes. Data from the 2000 General Social Survey (GSS) were analyzed. A scale created from three items measuring respondent attitude towards air pollution acted as the dependent variable.

Three OLS regression models were analyzed with mixed results. Race was significant outside of interactions but became insignificant in an interaction with gender. Outside of interactive effects, gender was never found to have significant effects on attitude towards air pollution, but effects of race on attitude across the two sexes were observed. No interactive effects between race and political orientation were observed.
