The purpose of this quantitative research study utilizing Multi-factor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) 5x Short Form was to measure leadership traits. The questionnaire was mailed to 214 minority-owned depository institutions (MODIs) to explore if a relationship exists between leadership style and bank performance among minority-owned depository institutions. Return on Assets (ROA) a commonly used measurement of bank performance was used to measure performance. Extensive efforts were expended to increase the sample size of the study including the original questionnaire, retention of a consulting firm and attendance at a MODI conference. The correlation between the traits of transformational and transactional leadership styles and ROA cannot be ruled out. Further research is suggested.
