Professionalization and Physician Self-Awareness (PPSA) is a curriculum initiative at McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Medical Education Program. PPSA seeks to integrate ethics, communication, therapeutic relationship and reflective practice. Borrowing from the objectives of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) of the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education (CAPPE), the PPSA objectives provide the crucible of learning by which faculty and student participants integrate their spirituality into personal and professional identities. At the same time, participants gain awareness and skill in the core elements of the healing relationship experientially and reflectively.

520 $a This dissertation describes this model ministry in detail, including the conceptual influences that have informed the model, the actual pieces of the curriculum and program evaluations that have taken place in each of the first two years of delivery. It describes the context in which PPSA is offered and places it within the theology of ministry of one of its Co-Creators/CoPlanners. Weaving together these pieces, a systematic theological reflection is offered on the process of visioning, designing the model, piloting/implementing the plan, evaluating and revisioning during the first two years of experiencing the curriculum.
