Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2008.
A retrospective, non-random, controlled study will be conducted to answer the research question; Do hypertensive patients who perceive that they are recieving quality helathcare behave more compliant to treatment recommendations and achieve better health outcomes: The researcher hypothesizes that patients who are satisfied with the quality of care they receive are more compliant with recommended medical treatment for hypertension and are less likely to experience poor health outcomes related to complications of uncontrolled hypertension. The Quality from a Patient's Perspective (QPP) survey will be administered to a sample size of at least 50 male patients at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama who are hypertensive. A comparative analysis will be conducted between patient responses on the Survey and their actual previously documented blood pressure readings. The purpose of this study is to evaluate patient perception as one important measure of compliance and recommend alternatives to increase health outcomes while controlling healthcare cost.
