Many library services are unfamiliar to international students, especially those from the developing countries. Important research tools, resources, and special services available in the library are new to the international students. As a result their abilities to seek library assistance and ask the right questions are limited. They tend to waste valuable time in gathering information and data for even the simplest of the academic assignments and projects. The international students in general have unique characteristics and background. Academic libraries should provide special services to enhance international students' abilities to use library resources effectively.

This Executive Position Paper (EPP) investigates how international students in general and students from developing countries in particular, use the services, collections, and research tools available in the Morris Library. This project is an effort to recommend possible ways the University of Delaware library could assist the international students on the campus as they go through the academic programs.

A combination of survey and interviews were used to examine how international students use Morris Library, their perception of library services and programs, and the problems they encounter. Follow-up interviews with the international students were conducted to gain elaboration from survey comments. Selected library public services staffs were also interviewed for input from service providers.
