Cross cultural studies in creativity were reviewed. No studies were found that were directly concerned with the documentation or analysis of the differences among creative responses of children who had the same ethnic heritage but who were born and reared in different countries with different cultures. This investigation was designed to investigate the degree to which culture affects children's creative responses. The investigation measured and compared creativity test scores from Thai children born in Thailand and raised in the Thai culture with first generation Thai-American children born and reared in an American culture.

The sample consisted of 100 elementary school children, one-half of whom were Thai children from Thailand, with the other one-half being Thai children who were born and reared in the United States as first generation Americans. The Torrance Test of Creative Thinking, Figural Form A, was used as a measure of creative ability for factors of originality, fluency, flexibility, and elaboration. A statistical package (SPSS) and (ANOVA) was utilized to analyze the data. The probability level was set at the.05 level.

The findings indicated that Thai subjects achieved significantly higher scores than the Thai-American subjects on all test factors. Additionally, it was found that the 5-6 grade levels achieved significantly higher scores than the 1-4 grade levels on factors of fluency and elaboration, among both sample groups. Males in both groups scored higher than females within those groups, with the Thai males achieving higher scores than Thai-American males. The family birth order among the subjects was not significant. Among the Thai sample, the first-born scored higher than their siblings with the Thai-American sample scoring lower.
