Thesis (M.A.)--Caldwell College, 2008.
Music and movement are physical and emotional sensory components, which affect long-term memory and lead to permanent learning (Erlauer, 2003). Kindergarten aged children need the opportunity to perceive information using different senses to sharpen and develop learning skills through stimulation (Rowen, 1982). When the brain is directly stimulated, the memory process occurs (Jensen, 1998). This study triangulated mixed methodologies using qualitative and quantitative analysis. A pre and post test were administered before and after the intervention, observational research was taken in the form of a checklist to record student practices during instruction, and interviews were conducted with participants to gain an understanding of how music affected learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the effects of music and movement on retention of information in young children.
