520 $a Objective. To evaluate the decision-making processes of mothers when feeding their preschoolers using the Multi-Attribute Utility (MAU) Model.
520 $a Procedures. This cross sectional study used mixed methodology to evaluate the feeding decisions of mothers of preschoolers. For Phase I, 15 Spanish Speaking Latinas, 15 English Speaking Latinas, and 8 White mothers answered interview questions to generate a list of consequences that were used for the Phase II MAU model feeding questionnaire. The questionnaire was answered by 78 Spanish Speaking Latinas, 28 English Speaking Latinas, and 43 White mothers.
520 $a Results. The Phase II consequence list was found to be valid. Group differences were found for MAU model parameters of Value, Likelihood and Momentary Salience as well as products. Mothers with lower annual household income were less likely to pressure their child to eat (p<.01) and were less concerned about their child's weight (P<.001). Differences in parental pressure to eat (p<.001) and parental concerns about child weight (p<.001) were also found between groups.
