PDSS, a user-friendly, PC-based decision support program, was developed to assist Bellcore client companies in analyzing vendor price quotations under business volume discounts. PDSS uses a 0-1 mixed integer programming model to minimize the total cost of all purchases, subject to several types of constraints. PDSS can save an organization 5% to 10% on purchase costs, and has been applied successfully to contracts in excess of
