鮑元愷教授為大陸著名作曲家、音樂理論家和音樂教育家，十三歲?開始發表音樂作品。1994~1999年間曾六次應邀至台灣訪問，並至阿里山、鹿港鎮、野柳、鵝鑾鼻等處，接觸不同族群的鄉土文化等，自1995年起，將其在台灣的獨特感受陸續寫成管弦樂曲，並於1999年完成大型交響組曲《臺灣音畫》，由國立臺灣交響樂團演奏。
