This book addresses the increasing significance of participation processes for the police and how to effectively design them. An integrated security structure will involve stakeholder groups and citizens in police hazard and risk assessment, shaping their sense of security. It provides a guiding approach for incorporating practical participation processes into police planning and projects, highlighting areas such as conflict resolution discussions before protests, opinion formation through information exchange, and "round tables" with independent citizen and police commissioners. In uncertain times marked by social change, participation processes can help improve relationships between the police and civil society and build mutual trust. While citizen participation cannot replace sovereign action, it can enhance it with everyday knowledge. In these challenging times, there is no better way to collaboratively shape security and address issues. The Content Practical assistance and better understanding of participation processes for police work Advantages of citizen participation at a glance Three practical application areas (cooperation discussions in protest situations, independent citizen and police commissioners, and municipal security and prevention work) The Author Jan-Philipp Küppers (M.Sc.) studied Social Work/Social Education, Political Science/Sociology, and Planning/Participation. He is an external doctoral candidate at the University of Stuttgart focusing on organizational and management aspects in critical infrastructure. His research and areas of interest include organizational and participation research. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.
