Most study within the work of Luke-Acts has focused on theological implication of Lukan themes and the author's treatment of his sources to compose a record with a primary goal: an account of the distillation of the gospel to the Gentiles. How can one refine Luke's intention? Does Luke write to a Gentile audience? Could the book of Acts be an apology for Paul to Rome? By establishing a method of how Luke approaches his sources, this dissertation transposes Luke's treatment of possible non-biblical sources and investigates the messages provided by the author when read through the appropriate contemporary lenses. Luke's meticulous nature in the composition of his accounts reflects an author who approaches the text with intentionality and tact. Luke's modus operandi qualifies such an evaluation and leads scholars to inquire as to what is he saying-and not saying-in his use or redaction of the available source material.{A0}Traditionally, Luke heralds the dispersion of the gospel to the Gentiles, and scholarship abounds in the exploration of how Luke sets the stage for this expansion. In the book of Luke, the author includes material in the ministry of Jesus, and such L materials and narratives involving Samaria or Samaritans, which foreshadows the continuation of his ministry to a wider audience in the book of Acts. Although much work has been done to investigate Luke's mission from a comprehensive lens, this study will narrow the scope of exploration to review what Luke uniquely delivers and how this aligns with his presentation of the trials of Jesus in the book of Luke and the trials of Paul in Acts 24-26.{A0}
