There is a critical need within the addiction recovery field for innovative modalities, practices, and whole-system approaches to improve long-term sobriety. The current literature suggests the need to merge the disease and choice models of recovery to develop a fully comprehensive integral approach to treatment and recovery. The further development of theoretical mind-body models, especially those developed from analysis of data, may continue to aid the field of addiction medicine and recovery.
