Thesis (M.M.E.)--Lamar University - Beaumont, 2023.
This thesis develops an effective ejector-pump system for sustainable sediment removal in ports and coastal infrastructure, addressing the drawbacks of traditional dredging methods. Through experimental data analysis and modeling, the study proves the relationship between sediment removal and pressurized water or energy usage under specific conditions. Initially, studies are conducted using water only to evaluate designs for the nozzle jet, venturi tube, and semi-closed housing to obtain optimized designs for the system. Subsequently, with the optimized design, experiments are conducted using a mixture of water and sand to find the amount of sand collected within a fixed time. The design incorporates a nozzle jet with auxiliary jets, a semi-closed housing, and a venturi tube, all designed in SolidWorks and 3D printed. Design modifications in the ejector, venturi-meter, and housing assembly, and with 3.10-inch nozzle-venturi distance the system's performance are implemented, resulting in superior effectiveness. The entrainment ratio analysis shows the system's ability to effectively remove sediment, while quantitative data confirms the successful sediment removal with the optimized design.
