Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological disability that affects the cognitive, social, and communicative ability of an individual. Autism tendencies are unique in individuals affected. Autism spectrum disorder involves a wide spectrum of high functioning to low functioning capabilities of individuals. Many educators teaching general and special education interact with students that have autism spectrum disorder. To promote optimal success for all individuals in the classroom, educators implement evidence-based teaching strategies to help support this population of students in their classroom. This teacher handbook is comprised of specific supports and evidence-based teaching strategies educators could utilize to help support their students with autism spectrum disorder (Leach, D., Lou, M. 2009).
