My research topic is the diagnosis of learning disabilities (LD) in elementary school children. The poorly defined criteria and methods of LD determinations leads to a large number of students labeled with the disability category of LD (Graves et al, 2011; Hutchison, 2021), even though the process is inconsistent and subjective (Graves et al, 2011; Hendricks et al, 2020; Shifrer et al, 2011; Winters et al, 2009). The LD label can create problems such as inappropriate education, less rigorous curriculum, lowered expectations, and poor educational outcomes associated with special education students (Enrique et al, 2013; Hughly & Larwin, 2021). I chose a qualitative approach to study this problem.
