The involvement of China in Africa by trade and investment has resulted in the displacement of thousands of farmers, making it a concern in the African Union (AU) and the Horn of Africa region countries. The rapid growth of China's investment in the African continent, the trade deficit between China and African states, and China's extraction of vital African natural resources, such as gold, uranium, and diamonds are disconcerting. Along with other critics, this thesis argues that the cultural, social, environmental, economic, and political impacts of China in Ethiopia, is inherently exploitative and that Chinese state actors engage in a manner analogous to colonialist powers in its dealings with Ethiopia. In short, the involvement of China in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa through trade and investment has no clear and comprehensive trade deal agreement to achieve win-win relationships.
