The following project is a critical examination of the literature on childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and substance abuse as it pertains to women. The effects of CSA and posttraumatic stress disorder due to CSA are explored. The interaction of CSA/trauma and substance abuse, and treatment issues for women suffering from these issues are reviewed. The utility and application of an integrative feminist narrative approach in working with this population is discussed. The goal of this project is to add to the literature that exists regarding the treatment of childhood sexual abuse and substance abuse in female survivors, through an integrative literature review, yielding original intervention suggestions based on a logical analysis of the available research. The utility of the feminist narrative approach is derived from the literature review. In exploring its utility, the feminist narrative approach is integrated with other trauma informed treatment models or ideas, as experts in the field have established certain integral treatment methods that should be utilized when working with the complex issues of CSA and substance abuse in women.
