Across the United States, schools are implementing more health and wellness instruction to decrease the number of students who are not physically active. Educating students about the importance of a healthier lifestyle is an intervention that can lead to fewer students who develop serious health conditions. To carry out the task of increasing students' health and wellness knowledge and physical activity, this action research project implemented a three-week fitness intervention for students who attended grades five through eight at a Midwestern school district in Illinois. In this study, wearable technology devices were used during physical activities with the goal of improving motivation and student's fitness levels. This action research project took place three days a week over a three-week period. This action research project used increased cardio-vascular activities and technology to improve students' attitudes towards physical activity. A mixed method research design examined the relationships between physical activity, fitness levels and motivation. The findings from this action research project suggest that using wearable device technology did not impact participants' attitudes and motivation to increase their physical activity.
