The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine the relationship between leader empowering behaviors and structural and psychological empowerment among mental health professionals. The theoretical foundations for this study were Kanter's structural empowerment theory and Spreitzer's theory of psychological empowerment. Two research questions comprised this study which was designed to assess the relationship between leader empowering behaviors and mental health professionals' structural and psychological empowerment. The sample included 88 mental health professionals from Arkansas. Leader empowering behaviors were measured by the Leader Empowering Behavior Questionnaire, while employees' structural and psychological empowerment was measured using the Conditions for Work Effectiveness Questionnaire and Measuring Empowerment Questionnaire, respectively. Pearson product moment correlations assessed a positive relationship between leader empowering behaviors and mental health professionals' structural and psychological empowerment. The findings indicated a statistically significant correlation between leader empowerment behaviors and structural empowerment (r = .702, p < .025); and psychological empowerment among mental health professionals (r = .627, p < .025). This study supported the relationship between leader empowering behaviors and structural and psychological empowerment among mental health professionals but warrants further research to determine if leader empowering behaviors can predict structural and psychological empowerment among mental health professionals.
