This study examined the relationship between sexual orientation, biological sex, and the desire to parent and to explore the associated impact of parenting on quality of life among groups. Previous studies have looked at lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) relationships, marriage equality, discrimination, and legal rights. As same-sex acceptance grows, these studies show an increased interest in parenting, family formation, sexual orientation effects on children, and alternative families. A gap in the literature was identified and addressed by this study, as limited research exists on life satisfaction, parenting desires, and sexual orientation. A causal-comparative methodology was utilized to examine the relationship between sexual orientation (independent variable), biological sex, and the desire to parent (dependent variable). The associated impact of parenting on quality of life (dependent variable) among groups was also explored. The theoretical basis of this study was the quality of life theory (QOLT) (Frisch, 2006, Quality of Life Therapy). The QOLT focuses on measuring the quality of life and the effects on happiness and wellbeing. Data was collected from 210 participants randomly obtained from Qualtrics. The participants included both sexes with an age range of 18 to 62. Sexual orientation of the participants included gay and heterosexual. The Qualtrics database was selected to obtain the sample. The Quality of Life Inventory (QOLI) was given online to all participants. The QOLI measured the desire to parent and life satisfaction ratings. The QOLI results indicated no difference in the desire to parent and life satisfaction between heterosexuals and gay people. The findings of this study showed a marginal difference between sexes in their desire to parent and life satisfaction. Gay and heterosexual individuals, both male and female, reported similar desires to become parents. Females reported a higher response than males, but it was not significant. Women did not report any differences from the men on how they viewed their current life satisfaction.
