Servant Leadership is a concept that was created by Robert Greenleaf. Over the years researchers have taken his characteristics of servant leadership and turned them into test measures. The SL-7 by Liden et al. (2008), Servant Leadership Survey by Van Dierendonck and Nuijten (2011), and the SLBS-6 by Sendjaya et al. (2018) are the three most predominantly used servant leadership test measures. Sendjaya et al. (2018) is the only one of the three that includes spirituality which is the closest characteristic to Greenleafs concept of religion. Eva et al. (2019) in a systematic review of servant leadership and a call for future research propose the use of Self-Determination Theory (SDT), motivation, time, age, and other antecedents to better understand servant leadership. In this study the SLAT which was created by Kuchinka (2020) and includes six dimensions and 30 factors that align with Greenleaf's characteristics, and an SDT test measure of motivation SIMS will be used to see if there is a correlation between the two measures and a targeted population of martial artists. This study also seeks to find if there is a correlation between servant leadership and motivation and martial arts frequency. Finally this study looks to explore if there are significant differences between servant leadership and motivation among age, gender, comparison groups, martial arts styles, and exercise types.
