This DMin project is a study of Baby Boomers who claim to be disciples of Jesus Christ who have reached the age of retirement. Upon reaching retirement, boomers are better educated, healthier, and have greater resources and longer life expectancy than previous generations. They could step up to be a significant pool of volunteers in the local church. But studies indicate very few do. This is a challenge to the local church, who needs them to volunteer.For a disciple of Jesus Christ, this should be different. Discipleship is a lifetime calling. It calls for a lifetime of spiritual transformation. It calls for a lifetime of Christlike service in the body of Christ. This project presents the history and culture of the Baby Boomer generation, a biblical study of aging, and how God desires to use seniors in his kingdom work. It offers insights into why Boomers do not volunteer as well as what would motivate them to volunteer in the life of their church after they retire.
