In this dissertation, I sought to understand how to create environments at Celebration Church that are conducive for forming the congregation for missional engagement in the city of Jacksonville, Florida, U.S.A. The underlying issue that prompted this study were a series of reforms that Celebration Church leadership began in 2018. These reforms focused primarily upon shifting the missional impetus of the church from being centered around drawing large crowds through event and program based ministry toward mobilizing the congregation to function as the priesthood of all believers in their community. Secondarily, the reforms focused on elevating the significance of sacramental practices such as water baptism, communion, and the observance of a contextualized Sabbath dinner ritual similar to the Jewish shabbat dinner.I conducted a review of precedent literature to understand how these reforms and the subsequent shifts in theology and missiology impacted how Celebration Church might form its congregation for missional engagement. I then reviewed literature around Celebration's ritual reforms and how they impact spiritual formation. Finally, I reviewed literature on spiritual formation itself to attempt to ascertain how people grow in the faith, with the working assumption that missional engagement is a fruit of a well-formed spiritual life. The literature revealed gaps that were not addressed-namely, how Celebration forms its people for missional engagement, in what ways does Sabbath impact spiritual formation, and what characteristics within the Sabbath ritual practices of Celebration's people impact their formation for mission. These questions became the subject of a triangulated research design conducted within the Celebration Church context itself.Informed by the precedent literature and with the findings of my field research, I articulated two conceptual frameworks that outline how people grow toward missional engagement and what balance of educational characteristics are necessary to form people well. I also identified what I've called the Missional Ecosystem model to create environments consisting of six formation characteristics that are conducive for forming people for missional engagement. Finally, I executed a pilot project within another ministry in Celebration Church to test the applicability of the Missional Ecosystem model in other ministry contexts.
