Thesis (M.Ed.)--The University of the Arts, 2023.
Includes bibliographical references
This thesis is a curriculum capstone project that reviews the research on how integrating creative and reflective writing within a dance curriculum can positively impact students. The research literature provides significant results from studies to show evidence that writing practices are effective for motivating students. The implications for integrating a dance curriculum with writing practices are that knowledge and literacy improves for students, increasing confidence, productivity and motivation. This four-unit dance curriculum was designed to support the literature findings that intrinsic motivation can yield better student engagement, confidence, and competence. The curriculum design intent was to intertwine both dance and writing practices with what has been tested for efficacy. Dance as a literary art form was examined as the nature of dance itself can be defined as a literary expression, and that dance literacy can also be achieved by reading and writing about dance.
