This thesis is a written account of the research, development, and writing of an adaptation of a true-life event into a feature drama screenplay. It explores the process of adaptation and will analyze the various methods from successful adaptions of real-life stories into scripts and on screen.I conducted research on several films that were not only adapted from books but from autobiographies, documentaries, and short stories in order to better comprehend the process. I also analyzed the story-to-screenplay process by adapting a true-life story of an individual that has given me written consent to write the script based on her true-life experience of her search to find her daughter. As a writer, I am inspired by the truth and reality of those I encounter, sometimes daily and sometimes for a moment in life. These raw, gritty, and undeniably redemptive stories reveal the depth of God and his work in his people. Adapting someone's life, especially someone who is not famous or a public figure can be a challenge. I will explore the constructs of successful public figure adaptations and analyze the methods which adaptions of real-life stories must take to keep the storyline fluid and capture the reader. Many films are adapted from books which give layers and layers of content to choose from for the script.
