There is limited information about financial crime and the role that victims and witnesses play in the investigation and prosecution of financial crimes. Therefore, in this study, the researcher conducted an individual interview with the District Attorney of a county in California, as well as two additional focus group interviews (n=18) with the District Attorney Investigators and the Deputy District Attorneys in the Financial Crimes Unit of the same agency. The participants were asked to share their experiences regarding training when it comes to investigations and communication with victims and witnesses. Additionally, they were asked to explain the process in which cases are investigated and prosecuted, as well as the role of victims and witnesses throughout working a case. The results from the interview with the District Attorney and the focus group interviews with the District Attorney Investigators and the Deputy District Attorneys show the importance of victims reporting financial crimes and cooperating with the investigators and attorneys throughout the process. The transparency of the District Attorney's Office in this study can be used to inform the public about the process of investigations and prosecutions in an effort to increase reporting and reduce the impact of financial crimes.
