Poor development of sports programmes in Nigeria might be as a result of inadequate electronic media attention. This has been a source of concern to all stakeholders as many have attributed it to electronic media dedicating more broadcast time to foreign sports than the domestic sports programmes in Nigeria. Therefore, the study was conducted to examine the perceived influence of electronic media on development of sports programmes in Kwara State with reference to sports facilities, funding of sports, sports awareness and people's participation in sports. Four research questions and two hypotheses were generated for the study. The research design adopted for this study was the descriptive survey. The population of this study consists of all 273 respondents at the 6th National Youth Games (NYG). There was no sample because the entire population was used as respondents in order to ensure the result is representative and generalizable. The instrument used for data collection was titled Perceived Influence of Electronic Media on the Development of Sports Programmes Questionnaire (PIEMDSPQ). The reliability test of PIEMDSPQ yielded a coefficient of 0.77. The instrument was both face and content validated by lecturers in the department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Kwara State University, Malete and experts in test and measurement. The demographic data of the respondents were analysed using frequency counts and percentage. The research questions were analysed using descriptive statistics of mean, percentage and frequency count; while independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study revealed that, to a high extent, electronic media influenced the creation of awareness for sports programmes in Kwara State. It was revealed that electronic media influenced peoples' participation in sport programmes to a high extent. The study also showed that electronic media influenced the provision of facilities and funding of sports programmes in Kwara State to a high extent. However, it was revealed that there existed no significant difference in the perceptions of athletes, coaches and administrators on the influence of electronic media on the development of sports programmes (F (2,270) = 0.412; P>0.05). The study confirmed that there was no significant difference in the perceived influence of electronic media on the development of sports programmes based on gender (t = 0.127; df = 271; P> 0.05). It was concluded that electronic media has high influence on the development of sports programmes in Kwara State. It was recommended that electronic media outlets should dedicate higher percentage of broadcast time (highlight shows, documentaries and so on) for domestic sports in their programme schedule.
