The fairly new emergence of social media has widened the platform on what information can be shared. Not only this, but it also opens doorways for those who did not have the opportunity or privilege to speak before on important issues. Representations of and responses to violence against Native women in popular media were collected and examined. The tag #MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women) was tracked over the course of several months in 2022 on both Twitter and TikTok. The collected content was then examined using frameworks and methodologies previously applied to more traditional forms of media, such as movies, television, and literature. In addition, a focus on Indigenous content creators and non-Indigenous responders was centered and connections are drawn between past and present roles and activism.
