Bergenline Avenue is a commercial road that intersects the municipalities of North Bergen, Guttenberg, West New York, and Union City within Hudson County. Of the four, the three latter municipalities are considered to be amongst the most densely populated cities in the United States. This overabundance of people is amplified by the attractions that the road brings. Bergenline Avenue serves as a central location where people can access a multitude of storefronts that range from restaurants, retail stores, to medical offices all within a block's radius. This convenience allows for consumers to visit the bustling hub as a destination that can cater to any need. Beyond the provision of services, the road also serves as a symbol of over a century's worth of urbanization that reflects changes in transportation, demographics, and industry within the region. Despite this historical significance and appeal, a visiting person's experience is diminished due to a lack of available space that is caused by overcrowded sidewalks, heavy traffic with consistent honking, and a lack of pedestrian friendly infrastructure in seating and vegetation for shading. As an urbanized city, this exploration will allow for public spaces to be reimagined and created amidst heavy development. This design exploration will involve a skyward expansion that takes advantage of the existing density of buildings found along the road. By utilizing currently unused rooftop spaces, publicly accessible spaces will be created that celebrates the existing population's culture and the history of the region. This new rooftop experience will create a key destination that will enhance the experience of visitors, embrace Latin culture, create unique viewsheds, and give back to the community.
