This dissertation reports on a study of search for an orbitally excited state of charmed baryons [special characters omitted](2800) and [special characters omitted](2800). We measure the widths, momentum spectrum and production cross-section for these states decaying into a [special characters omitted] and a charged π. The analysis uses 230 fb-1 of data collected at BAB detector operating at PEP-II collider at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The data is collected in the region of [special characters omitted](4S) and ≈ 40 MeV below the resonance. [special characters omitted] baryon is reconstructed in the decay mode pK-π +. The sigma Σc(2800) baryon production at continuum is observed to be quite significant for xp > 0.7, where xp = [special characters omitted] is the scaled momentum and varies from 0.0 to 1.0. The momentum spectrum is measured by considering the corrected yield for momentum bins above xp 0.5 and can be parameterized very well by a Peterson function, given by; [special characters omitted] The values for the Peterson parameter ε, are found to be 0.050 ± 0.010 for [special characters omitted](2800) and 0.057 ± 0.012 for [special characters omitted](2800). We use the momentum spectrum to evaluate the production cross-sections to be; [special characters omitted] and [special characters omitted] We also measure the widths to be 65.6 ± 14.9 MeV and 67.7 ± 16 MeV, for the neutral and charged modes, respectively, and the corresponding observed mass differences ([special characters omitted] + 2.285), are 2.8008 ± 0.0023GeV/c2 and 2.7980 ± 0.0028GeV/c2. The uncertainty here is statistical only.
