This research aims to identify the limitations of virtual Dance/movement therapy (DMT) and attempts to develop a methodology for virtual DMT that could address some of these limitations. This study identifies physical proximity and immersion in a physical space as significant challenges in virtual DMT. As a way to overcome these challenges, this study proposes the use of guided independent movement practices within a virtual platform/application that is specifically tailored to DMT. The research explored using guided independent movement practices to bridge some of the gaps within the virtual context of (DMT). Practicing a virtual DMT methodology could provide clients with structured movement directives that facilitate greater awareness and embodiment of their feelings while building a sense of autonomy in the virtual therapeutic process. The study emphasizes the need for a virtual platform/app designed explicitly for DMT and incorporates real-time interaction between therapists and clients. Overall, this research provides important insights into the potential benefits and challenges of virtual DMT and suggests a promising approach to optimizing the therapeutic experience in the virtual realm.
