The Barnegat Bay watershed has been negatively impacted per the result of the non-point solution pollution and development. As the health of Barnegat Bay continues to decline, the need to mitigate the on-going contamination along with a failing water control structure deemed unfit by NJDEP has prompted the creation of the Giffordtown Bog Water Quality and Habitat Enhancement Project. The area of interest for this project consists of three retired cranberry bogs located behind the Pinelands Regional High School in Little Egg Harbor Township. The GBWQHEP includes stakeholders from the Pinelands Regional School District, local & federal government, local community members, researchers, engineers and more.Through a series of meetings, the established Bog Committee had voted on restoration strategies such as the implementation of a Hemi-Marsh to help enhance habitat and increase the quality of water which flows through the Giffordtown Bogs. Tasked as the designer of this project, this thesis aims to create a design proposal which incorporates the goals and objectives set forward by the Stakeholders. Goals of the design proposal align with the need to create an aesthetically pleasing educational and recreational environment which provides ecosystem services that are beneficial to humans, flora and fauna.
