The purpose of this study is to access present knowledge on new materials and technologies that are being used for biomedical engineering, the acceptance of materials into the body (biocompatibility), the uses of materials in body implants, and the manufacturing processes of implant materials (Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling), along with their definitions, functions, structures, and requirements. Special attention has been given to understand the relationships among the properties, functions, and structures of biomedical materials. Three aspects of study on this subject can be envisioned: biological materials, implant materials, and the interaction between the 2 in the body.
