A nurse shortage is threatening the healthcare workforce. A shortage worsened by nursing faculty burnout. A literature search revealed burnout research focused on healthcare workers and educators; burnout factors were self-efficacy and perception of organizational support. Theoretical foundations were social cognitive and perceived organizational support theories, and a burnout model. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine if or to what extent a relationship existed between collegiate nursing faculty members' self-efficacy, perceived organizational support, and burnout in the United States. 123 U.S. full-time nursing faculty members with greater than one year of student instruction participated in an online multiple-section questionnaire. Six research questions asked: if there was a relationship between nursing faculty members' self-efficacy, perceived organizational support, and the burnout scale scores of depersonalization, personal accomplishment, and emotional exhaustion. Pearson's correlation indicated that self-efficacy was correlated with the three scale scores of burnout: emotional exhaustion (r = -.32, n = 123, p < .001), depersonalization (r = -.25, n = 123, p = .005), and personal accomplishment (r = .40, n = 123, p < .001). Additionally, perceived organizational support was correlated with the three scale scores: emotional exhaustion (r = -.65, n = 123, p < .001), depersonalization (r = -.54, n = 123, p < .001), and personal accomplishment (r = .39, n = 123, p < .001). There is a statistically significant relationship between nursing faculty members' self-efficacy, perceived organizational support, and burnout.
