Thesis (M.S.)--Drexel University, 2022.
Includes bibliographical references
This thesis examines a potential technological future of convergence, where the physical attributes of a theme park guest experience are infused with Augmented Reality Character Companions as a result of the mass adoption of smart glasses into everyday life. The exploration of this topic begins with an overview of related subject areas, transitions to a case study analysis, and concludes with a speculative design approach to blue sky ideation that details specific scenarios of user experience, recommending best implementation practices. Through these explorations, it is ultimately recommended that Augmented Reality Character Companions be implemented into theme parks around the world as they can provide personalized and memorable brand experiences, mitigate common pain points in the theme park guest experience, and leverage cutting-edge technologies that will expand storytelling capabilities. With an overarching goal of contributing to growing industry conversations around the topic of Augmented Reality, this thesis ends with a request for others to build off the presented research, offering insight into where future work could take place.
