This paper investigates how individual agency within a structural framework can serve as transitional and fortifying anchors for the growing Hispanic community in the Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati. The Hispanic population has been the fastest growing demographic in Cincinnati over the past decade. The Price Hill neighborhood contains the majority of Cincinnati's Hispanic population, and primarily consists of Guatemalan and Mexican immigrants. Although expanding, the Hispanic population in Price Hill is still relatively small. They have also been struggling to cultivate a strong and safe community, and they have been victims of blatant racism.Meanwhile, in October 2021, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati announced that the entire Archdiocese will be undergoing a major consolidation plan. The plan states that the Archdiocese' existing 208 parishes will be reorganized into 60 "families of parishes" due to shortage of priests and changing demographics. There are five existing Catholic parishes in Price Hill that are planned to be reorganized into one family of parishes. The five parishes also contain rectories, schools, and offices on the respective properties. Some of the parishes are already culturally relevant and significant to the existing Hispanic population in Price Hill.Considering the unlikelihood that all five parishes (and their associated offices and schools) in the neighborhood will have the ability to continue to function as practicing parishes, this thesis explores how Archdiocese property can be reimagined to facilitate the needs of incoming Hispanic immigrants, create centralized anchors for the community, and redeem the notable Catholic architecture of the neighborhood.
