The aim of this research was to study and develop a spectral analysis workflow for evaluating the impact of different types of solar shading elements on human visual comfort and circadian entrainment for an office building, in Kuwait. Two spectral analysis tools, ALFA by Solemma and a custom script, were used and the results were compared to assess the accuracy of the custom script to ALFA. The selected cases were three types of solar shading, each appropriate for middle eastern weather and selected based on precedent studies. The three solar shading elements selected for this study were termed: organic shading, foldable screens, and electrochromic shading. The shading schemes were compared through the WELL Building Standard metrics which requires project to provide users with adequate light levels that can enhance users' circadian health along with maintaining the day-night cycle. A statistical hypothesis testing was done on only one scenario to validate the use of the custom script compared to ALFA. The results of the p-value showed statistical significant difference between the two tools. This p-test result means that the test hypothesis is false or should be rejected. The advantages and limitations of each modeling tool were identified, and suggestions for further tool development and use provided.
