How military combat deployment stressors and law enforcement occupational stressors may impact spouses of military members working in law enforcement was examined in this systematic review of the literature. Mental health issues experienced by military members based on traumatic combat events significantly impact spouses in the form of secondary traumatic stress from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)(Landers et al., 2020). Law enforcement officers also experience traumatic events that lead to PTSD diagnoses (Menard & Arter, 2014). When military members complete combat deployments, the traumatic events may transition into their law enforcement duties. In these cases, traumatic events may continue having a significant and negative impact on the spouses. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist, 24 qualitative and quantitative studies were included in this systematic literature review. Sample sizes varied from 1 to 9,872. Findings revealed PTSD symptoms experienced by military veterans and law enforcement officers have a significant negative impact on their spouses.
