This treatment manual endeavors to establish a holistic, reproducible program for the treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). More specifically, it represents an effort to establish a treatment paradigm that does not include pharmacological interventions yet retains some parity in effectiveness. This manual begins by outlining the psychophysiological and behavioral profiles commonly expressed in ADHD, and examines the literature for current practices in the treatment of this disorder before reviewing their effectiveness. The neurofeedback treatment modality is then explored in-depth, and the behavioral learning process underlying its effects is explained in detail. The manual then details a treatment program that employs behavioral and psychoeducational interventions, and includes a research-based framework for measuring progress quantitatively throughout the treatment process. It includes an examination of the current psychoeducational approaches to ADHD treatment, and each section highlights the essential facts to be communicated to the client with an accompanying handout. The manual concludes by outlining the follow-up process, and making research-based recommendations for maintenance sessions once the initial treatment protocol concludes.
