Background: Mindfulness-based stress reduction programs have demonstrated efficacy in reducing stress burnout and insomnia among healthcare professionals. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and potential sustainability of implementing a mindfulness-based stress management program for behavioral healthcare staff members at a federally qualified healthcare center (FQHC) in North Carolina. Methods: An in-service presentation on mindfulness to promote stress management, well-being, and resilience was conducted with behavioral healthcare staff, followed by a voluntary four-week online Mindfulness Based Stress Management program. Following completion of the module, behavioral healthcare staff were invited to share their evaluation feedback through an anonymous survey. Results: Fourteen of behavioral healthcare staff attended the in-service presentation, and six behavioral healthcare staff completed the four-week module. Five of the six staff members evaluated the experience via the online survey. Although barriers to practice existed (e.g., time barriers), results revealed that the mindfulness-based stress reduction modules were generally acceptable and positively rated. Conclusions: Findings from the project suggest potential benefits of expanding and revising the mindfulness-based stress reduction program for behavioral health staff to feasibly promote well-being in the daily workplace setting.
