U.S. law enforcement and government agencies have been using open-source intelligence (OSINT) since the Revolutionary War, and OSINTs modern-day exploitation is helping to combat crime and terrorism. However, the increased volume of information produced on the Internet has left OSINT analysts struggling with collection, data management, and analysis. Technology that can automatically collect and analyze OSINT information may solve data acquisition, processing, and exploitation challenges. The purpose of this research was to analyze Industry 4.0 technologies' use in OSINT and determine how these technologies can improve OSINT investigations for U.S. law enforcement and government agencies. This study examined industry 4.0 technology and how they are used in OSINT. The study reviewed how U.S. law enforcement and government agencies use Industry 4.0 technology for OSINT and what improvements this technology has made in their OSINT investigations. Finally, this study discussed the challenges U.S. law enforcement and government agencies face using Industry 4.0 technology for OSINT.This research found that Industry 4.0 technologies improve automation, storage, and decision-making practices, and U.S. law enforcement and government agencies have adopted some Industry 4.0 technology to improve intelligence efforts. This research recommended that U.S. law enforcement and government agencies further develop and use Industry 4.0 technologies for OSINT. Further research should assess how Industry 4.0 technology challenges affect U.S. law enforcement and government agencies' OSINT efforts and how certain policies and practices could develop the use of Industry 4.0 technology for OSINT.
