Thesis (M.S.)--Drexel University, 2022.
Includes bibliographical references
This thesis examines the history and relationship between Japanese anime and US animation in an attempt to discover how they have both influenced each other. This was accomplished by researching the origins of anime and the characteristics that make it unique as a medium. After choosing three of these characteristics case studies were conducted to breakdown these characteristics and examine their unique traits. Then after finding examples of these characteristics in anime, these examples can be used to find examples of these characteristics in US animation to determine the level of influence anime has had on US animation since its introduction in the US in the 1960's. This research found that there was anime influence found in some US animated series to varying degrees. Without direct confirmation from the creators of that the use of these characteristics is purposeful all of this is just purely circumstantial.
