This qualitative case study seeks to better understand the perceived level of work readiness for the Cristo Rey Kansas City High School class of 2010. Graduates of Cristo Rey Kansas City are placed in professional job settings to accrue job experience as well as adult work skills for the future. A survey was conducted to further investigate graduates' perceptions of their work study experiences while in high school. From this survey individual interviews were held with nine respondents to extract qualitative data.Key themes emerged from this research that included four findings: 1.) students were not drawn to CRKC for the work study experience, 2.) students had general positive outlooks when reflecting on their placements, 3.) on-the-job skills and tasks were inconsistently aligned with industry specific tasks and work readiness skills, and 4.) students gained a variety of adult work environment skills through their job placements.Implications for current action include the Corporate Work Study Program department explicitly creating initiatives to increase alignment of job specific work skills and interventions to improve work readiness for future employment beyond high school.
