This study explores the challenges that leaders in two midsize aerospace service centers, within the same sponsor company, encountered when implementing an integrated quality management system using the AS9110 international quality standard. Participants of this study were selected from each of the two facilities included in this study. Each facility completed the implementation of the AS9110 international quality standard and experienced their own set of roadblocks and challenges. The participants in this study include members of the implementation and leadership teams involved in implementing an integrated Quality Management System(QMS) based on the AS9110 international quality standard. The typical implementation team had members from every function in the organization and management. The researcher used a semi-structured interview approach, where he used open-ended questions to collect qualitative data. The literature review yielded themes centered around the role of leadership, people(workforce), QMS principles, and the role of technology in QMS implementation. This study provides leaders direction and guidance to develop strategies for the effective implementation of an integrated QMS such as AS9110 in an aerospace service center.
